Whether you want to start a blog, podcast, or YouTube channel, you need to define what makes you stand out from other digital creators. We’ve never had more opportunities than we have today, to express ourselves and our talents. That’s great news, but it also means there’s a lot of competition out there.
In this article, you will find some questions to ask yourself to get to know yourself better. You don’t have to share this with anyone else for now, but it’s essential to be honest with yourself. You have to know where you are now to determine what direction you want to go in.
#1 What Am I Great at?
The most successful people stand out due to a unique combination of talents. You may think that you don’t have multiple talents, or that they can’t be connected to each other. That’s not true. Think about all the things you are great at, whether it’s something big like winning a medal in sports or something small like: I make fantastic muffins, and everyone loves them!
Make a list of all the things you’re great at. Consider skills that people compliment you on and those areas where they often seek your help. Now, think about whether you can pair some of those things and create something unique. All great ideas start like this. Think of Steve Jobs, who paired his aesthetics and tech knowledge, in a time when computers were anything but cool looking.
#2 What Would I Do If I Didn’t Have to Work Ever Again?
Imagine you won the lottery and you don’t have to work anymore. You can do anything you want and go anywhere you want. Most people claim that they’d quit their jobs the next morning. The most common answer to this question is that people would go to some exotic island, spend their days enjoying themselves on the beach, and have someone cook and clean for them.
However, that can’t last forever. Most people would get bored of sitting on the beach, and they’d want to do something productive, to leave some kind of legacy. What would you do? Would you write a book? Would you teach kids about sports? Maybe you’d become a fashion designer? The answer to this question is your true passion. That’s the work you’re born to do.
#3 Who Is My Inspiration?
Think about all the role models you had while growing up. Maybe it was your mom, maybe it was some famous singer or actress. Sometimes your greatest teachers and motivators are people you never really met. Maybe it’s your favorite writer or even a TV host, such as Oprah Winfrey.
You probably also have some role models in the online world and in your industry. People whose blogs you admire, you love their style, the way they talk, topics they choose. You should never copy someone, but it’s perfectly fine to use other people as a source of inspiration.
#4 How Do I Want to Be Remembered?
One of the questions to ask yourself to get to know yourself is, what do you want people to think when they think of you? How do you want them to remember you? Here, every one of us has a list of positive characteristics. I want to be recognized as a creative individual. I want to be remembered for my sense of humor.
But is that what you’re giving to people? If your online image isn’t aligned with these values, it may be time to change something about that.
First, when you do so, you’ll feel much better about yourself. Second, other people will recognize that you’re doing something genuine, and they’ll support you because the world misses people who aren’t afraid to show their true self.
